The Balance of Pacing and Pressuring: What can College Planning teach us now?

This session will utilize one of Stephen Covey’s principles: Begin with the end in mind. By focusing on wisdom and insights from collegiate work, the presenter will highlight ways that parents and caretakers can recognize guideposts of development throughout pre-college schooling.

Meet us at the WCS Central Office in Franklin in the 1st Floor Training Room (look for WillCoGS Signs).

Debora Finch earned her B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy from Union College (NY) and her M.Ed. from Vanderbilt University in Human Development Counseling. Ms. Finch served as a school counselor in Williamson County Schools for pre-K through 12th grade students for 17 years, and she has instructed graduate students in Vanderbilt’s school counseling program as an adjunct professor since 2013.  In addition to her school counseling work, Ms. Finch has advocated for gifted learners by developing parent support groups, which she has facilitated in Vanderbilt’s Program for Talented Youth since 2007.

Beyond the field of school counseling and support groups, Ms. Finch has taught “Intellectual Growth and Inquiry”, the introductory course for the Adult Studies Program at Belmont University, since 2010. In an effort to live into the title and the foundation of this course, she received formal training as a Clifton Strengthsfinder consultant in 2016. Her newest role is as director of the Leadership and Advocacy track of Belmont University’s Honors College. When combining these roles, Ms. Finch utilizes talent development (and her top talent theme: Maximizer) as a frame to teach, inspire, and pace personal and professional growth across the life span.
