Summer Enrichment Ideas: Reading and Math

  • Meeting held via Zoom (map)

Please join us via Zoom on Wednesday, May 5th from 12:30-1:30pm for our monthly meeting.

For our last session of the season, join Williamson County Schools teachers Julie Boggess, Emily Hollett, and Renee McKnight for a conversation about summer enrichment activites.

Don’t Let the Summer Slip By Without Books

Julie Roberts Boggess will speak on the following topics proving that books are wonderful tools to help children grow during the summer.

  • Just Right Books: Finding the right book for an advanced reader can be quite a challenge.

  • Bibliotherapy: Using books to help with the social-emotional needs of a gifted child.

  • Fostering a Love of Books: Helping children learn to love reading for pleasure and not just to complete an assignment.

Math Matters

Emily Hollett and Renee McKnight will discuss ways to make everyday summer activities into opportunities for math enrichment. They'll briefly cover some ideas for at home math activities as well as questioning strategies that can be used to target mathematical thinking no matter what the activity! They’ll also present a variety of other learning opportunities in the form of online platforms, books, games, and camps/programs that all target mathematical mindsets. Resources will be provided to enhance advanced mathematical reasoning skills including test preparation for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT.
