Advocating 101: Gifted Policies and Practices in Tennessee

  • Meeting held via Zoom (map)

Tennessee’s gifted policies and practices are unique compared to other states, but how does Tennessee compare when it comes to equitable policies and practices? Join Abigail Yann from The University of Georgia (and Williamson County!) to take a look at some of Tennessee's gifted policies and practices and the impacts they can have on our gifted and high-ability students. Tools for advocacy at different levels will be introduced and you will be challenged to think about your purpose, passion, and call to action when it comes to gifted and high-ability education.

Abigail Yann is an 8th-grade teacher in Williamson County who just finished her master’s program at the University of Georgia in Gifted and Creative Education. She grew up in Franklin but left to get her undergraduate degree in education from Mississippi State University. She had the opportunity to complete her student teaching in WCS and has enjoyed being back in the county as a history teacher for the past three years. Her passion for gifted education led her to complete her master’s degree and she found a love for education policy along the way. Abigail hopes to share her story of advocacy with others and encourage them to share their stories, too.
