Presenters Dr. Beth Malow and Dr. Michelle Fiscus will share information about healthy sleep needs for kids ages 5-18, consequences of chronic sleep deprivation, and habits and strategies for improving sleep, The presentation will be followed by a panel Q & A session. About the Presenters
Dr. Beth Malow - Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics and Director, Vanderbilt Sleep Division. She is a sleep specialist who cares for individuals with sleep concerns across the lifespan, and conducts research on the impact of sleep problems on daytime functioning. Dr. Malow is an active member of Sleep Well Tennessee, a Facebook group that advocates for healthy sleep in our communities.
Dr. Michelle Fiscus - Medical Director of the Tennessee Immunization Program at the Tennessee Department of Health. She has just transitioned from her role as Deputy Medical Director of the Division of Family Health & Wellness also with the Department. Dr. Fiscus was the co-founder of Cool Springs Pediatrics in Franklin, TN where she practiced general pediatrics for 17 years. She is a past president of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves as the medical director for their Behavior Health in Pediatrics program. Dr. Fiscus is the immediate past chair of the National Nominating Committee for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
About the Additional Panelists
Dr. Sarah Jaser is a pediatric psychologist who works at Vanderbilt with children with diabetes. Her research includes studies to promote better sleep in children and adolescents, as well as their caregivers, as a way to improve health outcomes.
Anne McGraw sat on the Williamson County School Board from 2015-18, during which she served as Policy Committee Chair and Board Vice-Chair. She leads Social Media for Nissan North America on the Marketing Communications team, is on the Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish of Middle Tennessee, and is the mother to two daughters in Williamson County Schools.
Daniel Pert is a senior at Ravenwood High School in Williamson County.
